We Make a difference in families lives
Omphile Ronald Ponto
My name is Omphile Ronald Ponto, I am 25 years old. I grew up under the care and support of GAOS, since its inception in 2007. Wow… it’s amazing when I look back and remember the good things that happened to me, since I met GAOS and attended its sessions. I came to GAOS when was young, the only challenge I had is witnessing my mother struggling to take care of me as an unemployed single mother. My mother is a caring and loving parent, no parents wants to fail their children. However, the situation at home brought so much frustration to my mother.
She needed all the help she can get, thank God GAOS came at the right time. When GAOS was introduced in the community, my mom grabbed the opportunity and became a committed parent who regularly participated in GAOScommunity parental training workshops, she also encouraged me to attend Kids club sessions of GAOS. The decision of my mother was the beginning of a beautiful life. GAOS team has been so supportive to me and my mother. They provided us with food, blankets, clothes and educational materials. I also became active Kids Club member and never missed any session.I have learned so much from GAOS, the sessions and education I received paved the
way to a brighter future. GAOS has contributed greatly to my personal growth. Today I am a young man who is able to take care of his family
– my mother. The ReadytoWork program has helped me a lot. When I took part in the Ready to Work training, which has 4 modules – Money Skills,People Skills,Entrepreneurial Skills andWork Skills, I did not know what my plans for the future were after finishing school. The training was indeed worth it, because it has taught me how I can improve my life, how I can excel as an entrepreneur and how to save money wisely. Through the job shadowing placement after the training, I gained experience which am able to apply it in my new job as a sales agent. I believe I will be running my own business in the future. I am grateful for everything GAOS has done for me and what I have learned from them. All GAOS
programs are important and relevant to be used to empower young people. I really feel inspired and motivated, so much so that I am willing to share with others what I have learned and to continue applying it in my life in order for me to succeed. After my graduation in GAOS Kids Club, I was groomed to become a peer-educator. I am now assisting GAOS facilitators to educate and provide guidance to the youths in my community, which is the passion I have discovered. My mother and I benefited from GAOS services, the parental sessions improved my mother’s knowledge in care-giving and taught her how to deal with stress and depression of being unemployed single mother and how she can overcome challenges in life.
