Journey of Life

The Journey of Life series helps communities to support both caregivers and children in need. With individual and community resources often stretched to the breaking point-by, violence, natural disasters, HIV and AIDS, people need the information and skills to be able to plan. The Journey of Life series is based on the following key principles:

  • The family and larger community have the strengths, the capacity and the resources to respond to the challenges of life. We begin with these strengths and support families and communities to build on them.
  • However, the family and community need to understand their limitations and find the best use of their capacities and resources.
  • Children are not passive recipients. Instead, they can be actively involved in meeting their own needs and those of other children and adults.

  • The Journey of Life is multi-generational; Children, youth and adults are involved together and learn from each other.
  • The Journey of Life series is non-prescriptive. The workshops guide the community to
  • conceive its own solutions and develop plans to implement them.
  • The Journey of Life series is fun, simple and non-technical.
  • Using drama, art, dance, song and discussion to develop new ideas and skills, he workshops are accessible to people with varying levels of education and backgrounds.

In addition, The Journey of Life for Children allows children to be heard and be active participants in making decisions that affect their lives. The Journey of Life series brings together all the people in a community, both disadvantaged groups and those who have power and opportunity, encouraging them to develop their capabilities, and to find a collective path of action so that all will benefit.

Objectives of Journey of Life

  • To help the participants identify children who are struggling with problems.
  • To help the participants appreciate what happens to children when they cannot cope with problems.
  • To help participants recognize that when children are overwhelmed by problems, they may take the Road of Danger.
