Executive Summary

This initiative is to compliment government efforts in caring for orphans, vulnerable children and the youth in our community and those who are in rural villages. GAOS is targeting orphans, vulnerable children and the youth from 7 to 35 years including the disabled, by empowering them to be better people who can contribute positively to their lives, family,

community and the entire society of Botswana. The reality is that most orphans after they experience an unfortunate tragedy of

losing their parents in most cases there is no one to fill the gap of assisting this vulnerable children to attain their dreams and grow to be morally sound members of the community, they don’t have anyone to look up to like their peers. They need support through mentoring and capital support for them to find their way through life .The aim of the Centre is to assist by teaching them morally accepted behaviour and by engaging them in

business initiatives that can help them to sustain themselves and their other siblings. The reality is that most of this young people lack moral guidance from a young age. In most cases they end up being attracted to crime and other wayward activities which can be attributed to lack of proper socialization, unemployment and idleness. Therefore GAOS has the following objectives as far as this project is concerned:

  • To identify and register orphans, vulnerable children and disadvantaged youth.
  • To provide moral education.
  • To provide remedial lessons.
  • To provide counseling sessions and referrals to the specific others.
  • To provide OVC with emotional support and words of encouragement.
  • Psychosocial Support Camps for OVC.
  • Home and school visits to identify school dropouts, the sick and needy people.
  • Identifying abused children
  • Providing food to needy people.
  • Helping OVC develop their talents including sport, etc.
  • To facilitate a feeding program most especially for the young ones and kids club.
  • To identify their needs through needs assessment and find intervention strategies per time.
  • To empower the youth with business skills through training, mentoring and equipping them with technical skills to run their business.
  • To provide education on Sexual and
  • Reproduction Health including Rights.

Organization Information

Guardian Angel Orphans Society (GAOS)is a non-governmental organization registered with the government of Botswana as voluntary society championing for the welfare and rights of orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). GAOS most fundamental objective is to create a

favourable safety net for the affected children. The thresholds of our operational foundation have remained steadfast due to the invaluable

investment of time and energy from a youthful and courageous team of founder members who under the leadership of its President Mr. Percy Madikwe share a practical experience of growing up in orphan hood. They are willingly armed with the determination to advocate for the good course of orphans and vulnerable children in the Botswana society.

The organization where possible will engage private consultants to achieve some of its mandate i.e. Business Consultants in business training and mentoring or utilize freely available government institutions programs. GAOS was registered in September 2007, is currently providing care and support to 200 registered orphans and vulnerable children from 5 different locations.
